Glamorous Goulburn Maternity

It’s been a very busy month, and not really photography related! We’ve just been through two weeks of school holidays and then my family spent some time in Melbourne to watch me complete my first ever full marathon. The marathon was the culmination of five months of training and made my heart so full! It’s actually taken me a bit to get over it. Not just physically but mentally as well. And this was my first week where I’ve been able to focus properly on my photography work.

So what better way to ease back in to it the with this simple and timeless maternity shoot from last month. The gorgeous hair and makeup was done by my very talented sister Keira, from Georgia May & K. We are so excited to now be able to offer full hair and makeup packages to compliment not only our maternity sessions, but any of my photography sessions. I also have a wonderful collection of maternity outfits for use in our sessions. The last few weeks of pregnancy are definitely the perfect time to be pampered.

Taylah made our work so easy. She was open to all our ideas and looked amazing. I think she even said at the end that we had made her feel a million bucks. Which is exactly how every expectant mum should feel!

Baby F {Goulburn Newborn Photographer}

I was lucky enough to do a family/maternity session for this family, so I was really looking forward to this newborn session. I just couldn’t have asked for better! Baby Frankie was a very settled and content baby. Her older brother was very excited to introduce me to his new sister. He was also very keen to get his photo taken (although it may have taken a few chocolate bribes).

I’ve had a lot of enquiries lately for newborn sessions, which is amazing! Newborn photography is definitely something I am truly passionate about. So I thought I would include some information and tips to help prepare expectant mums for their sessions. Expectant mums usually get in touch to pencil in their due date 2-3 months before baby is due. This helps me plan my sessions and bookings. It also gives us the opportunity to book in a maternity session. Check out the sneak peek from my most recent maternity session here.

I typically shoot my newborn sessions under 2 weeks of age and ideally around the 5-6 day mark. The reason for this is mainly because babies are quite sleepy at this age and are able to be posed more easily. I also know having a new baby in your house is an adjustment and exhausting, so I always let parent’s know its perfectly ok to wait until you are settled at home before touching base with me to officially book in our session.

I typically will come to you for your session. We really only need to have a small space with good natural light in order to do our session. It’s also really lovely to be in your own environment. And to feel comfortable feeding and settling your baby in your own space. I will always work with your baby and as I’ve often said my focus is always primarily on the safety and comfort of the baby and mother I am working with.

Little Baby C {Goulburn Newborn Photographer}

I get asked all the time what it is that I love above all else when photographing newborn babies. And at first I’d be quick to answer ‘Oh, I just love babies’. And that is of course absolutely true. But when I think a little more on the question it becomes obvious to me that there are so many more reasons that I adore this genre the most. I love watching the interactions between the baby and their parents. I’m always acutely aware of the newness of the relationship. That they are all finding their feet together and I always feel so privileged to able to witness it.

I love the fact that every baby is different. I love those initial moments as you explore how the baby reacts to touch and movement and sound as you settle them ready for their session. It’s always been fascinating to me that a baby can be wide awake one moment, keenly taking in their surrounds and sound asleep moments later. And some babies just take longer to settle in to that deep, relaxing sleep. And of course there are always the little ones who never settle in to a sleep at all. Suddenly I’m taken back 10 years to when my eldest son was a newborn. I spent hours pacing the hallway singing Beatles songs in the hope of finally getting him to sleep. Interestingly he’s still probably often the last to go to sleep in our family.

I also love capturing all those little details that you think you’ll remember forever. It doesn’t always feel it at the time but the newborn stage really is a fleeting moment in time.

This session had a little baby who wasn’t really that keen on settling. Her mum was nothing short of amazing as she feed and settled on repeat throughout the session. I also always encourage my families to bring along things that are special to them and their baby. The gorgeous fluffy pink rug in this session was a present from the babies Nan.

Twilight Maternity { Goulburn Maternity Photographer }

I love maternity sessions. When I was pregnant with each of my boys it was never on my radar as a ‘thing’ to do and I was incredibly self conscious of how enormous I felt. I may be only small but I was blessed with rather large babies (especially my last!) and that sure showed. Looking back now and it is definitely something that I wish I had given some thought to.  So I love it when pregnant women come to me and are interested in capturing this amazing time.

Winter is such a gorgeous time to shoot. The short days mean no waiting around until late to make use of the perfect late evening light. This session was held just before 5 and the light was so gentle and pretty. And the colours of the twilight sky were just so gorgeous, we couldn’t have asked for better. We were also lucky enough to capture the rising full moon – just amazing!

I also love how we were able to include the older brother in our session. He is clearly very excited and proud to be welcoming a new baby in to his family very shortly. He also very obviously adores his mum, and how wonderful to be able to capture that relationship for them.

Family Farm Fun {Goulburn Family Photographer}

Today is the last day of school holidays. I’m feeling very fortunate that our holidays were filled with lots of lovely time with our family. I am also equal parts happy to get my older boys back off to school and sad that holidays and the break from routine is over. School holidays always start with such good intentions. I don’t take on any photo shoots during the school holidays. Instead I prefer to focus on spending time with my boys. I also usually take the break to catch up on my editing and blogging and do some planning for the coming the months.

Sometimes regardless of our intentions things don’t really work out as planned. So here I am on the last day of holidays scurrying to cross a few things from my ever growing list.

So that brings me to this gorgeous sessions. This little man was a week or so from turning 1. He was unbelievably happy and just loved hanging out with his parents at their property having his photo taken. My favourite thing about the session is just how natural all the images are. I think they really capture the innocence and joy that is so abundant with children at this age. I’m also really loving the black and white collage from the session, it’s just so beautiful.

Autumn Mini Sessions – Goulburn Photographer

Today I have spent most of the morning packaging up prints and USB’s from my recent autumn mini sessions at the Lake George Winery. It’s one of those jobs I probably should have saved for when my little ones weren’t around to “help” me out. I’ve lost count of how many times the scissors and sticky tape have gone missing. No doubt I’m soon to find something taped up that did not require it!

So I thought I should probably start blogging all the shoots from that day. This one was my first shoot for the day. Our day kicked off at 9:30 am and it was extremely foggy. I was also super excited because the mum from this shoot is just starting out on her own photography journey and I knew that meant she would nail the what to wear. And she definitely did. When deciding what to wear, especially in autumn and winter, you can never go wrong with layers. They add visual interest and allow you to bring in some colour and texture.

EOFY Sale & Availability

I can’t believe we are almost half way through the year already. Being an accountant 30 June is one of my favourite dates on the calendar, so keep an eye out for my EOFY sale coming up over the next few days.

Do you have a voucher that you are yet to use? Be sure to book in early to avoid disappointment, as I am already booking dates as far away as September. I also will be taking some time off over the July and September school holidays to spend with my boys.

Little Baby C {Goulburn Newborn Photographer}

Late last year I made a commitment to myself that I would invest some of my resources in to improving my newborn photography. Part of my plan involved finding a newborn workshop to attend. And like is often the way of the universe, exactly what I needed appeared in my inbox at the exact right moment. I nervously booked in to a workshop with award winning photographer Kelly Brown, you can check out some of her stunning work here
So finally a few weeks ago, the time rolled around for me to actually attend the workshop (yay to a weekend by myself in Sydney!). It was every bit as amazing as I had hoped it would be. We covered every single aspect of newborn photography, including (and I feel most importantly) infant safety. Being around people who are as passionate as you are about something is such a joyful experience.  And we all know how much I absolutely adore babies.

In the lead up to my workshop I put the call out on Facebook for a newborn model so that I would be able to consolidate everything I had learned as soon as possible. My inbox was absolutely inundated with emails and messages from expectant parents. I would have loved to be able to say yes to everyone, but eventually I settled on this little guy.

I couldn’t have asked for a better model call. They followed everything I had asked in order to prepare for the session and they were happy and relaxed. And most of all they were really happy and willing to be involved in the process. Photographing babies is time consuming and requires patience. I always give a guideline on how long it might take, but sometimes it simply takes longer. My priority is always first and foremost on the safety and comfort of the baby.

I’m absolutely in love with the images. Expecting a newborn soon? Book your session here

Gorgeous Mother and Daughter Session

This session has to be one of my favourite sessions so far this year. I absolutely love mother and daughter sessions and I think doing one with your teen is extra special.

We traveled out to the Old Federal Highway, about half way between Canberra and Goulburn. There’s a little stretch of road that runs in front of the Lake George Winery that has the most amazing Autumn leaves. And the girls and I wanted to take advantage of all those gorgeous Autumn colours. And as a result that fabulous pop of colour definitely added the wow factor to our images and really complemented the girls perfect styling.

The girls had their hair and makeup done by the very talented Jo at Styledforyou. Make sure you pop over and check out her Facebook page.

My absolute favourite shots from this session are the impromptu shots we did in a driveway after the session was finished. I actually got goosebumps when I saw how stunning the daughter looked in the gentle afternoon light. Is it just me or are teenagers these days so much sophisticated and graceful than when I was a teenager?

Fabulous & Fun Family of Five { Goulburn Family Photographer}

Thanks to Goulburn Rugby I have known this lovely little family forever. And I was so excited when this session was gifted to them by some of our friends when their third baby was born. Well that little man recently turned one. So we finally got around to having our session, at Rocky Hill, on an absolutely stunning Autumn day. We really couldn’t have asked for better weather.

This session was seriously fun, like laugh out loud, never want it to end fun. The brief was unposed, candid shots. Shots that capture their family just as they are at this moment in time. I think we definitely nailed that. And actually I couldn’t help but feel happy and giggly as I worked through editing the images.

Rocky Hill is such an iconic Goulburn location and it is perfect for a family session as there are so many areas to explore. It’s also one of my favourite spots in town and I often park at the wetlands and make my boys walk up via the stairs. We call it ‘exploring’ and they love climbing the rocks that lead from the stairs up to the War Memorial and then exploring the area beyond the War Memorial itself. It’s the perfect way for them to burn off some of their seemingly endless energy.

Early Autumn Express Session { Goulburn Family Photographer}

What is an Express Session?

I offer a little session I like to call my ‘Express Session’. It’s a bit like a mini session, which you might be familiar with from other photographers. However I don’t schedule multiple sessions in one day and I’m flexible with location. I find they are perfect for families with young children because the sessions are fast and fun. What makes them different though is you don’t get the variety of location as we usually just shoot in one particular spot. You also don’t get the same the number of shots you would normally get in an hour long family session. But for these reasons they are also a more affordable option. And they also importantly work in well with the demands of my family, especially now the winter sport season has commenced.

This lovely family were visiting Goulburn from Wagga Wagga and knew that an express session would be perfect for their boys. There was plenty of time for the boys to run around the beautiful grounds of the Goulburn Water Works, but not so much time that they became tired or bored. I’m really thankful that they took time out of their visit to fit in our session.
