Welcome 2017

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and New Year. I know I have! In fact this is the first time I’ve sat down at my home computer in well over a week. 2016 was such an amazing year for me, both personally and in my little business but I’m also really excited about what is to come in 2017. I’ve booked myself in to some amazing photography courses (including an intensive newborn course with one of Australia’s most well known newborn photographers) and I already have so many wonderful clients booked in for the next few months.

I always try to take things a little slower in January, we have four boys and I love the break from our overwhelming schedule and routine during school holidays. We also try to fit in some downtime during the weekends, before everything cranks up again in February.

Here are a few of my favourite images from 2016.

What to Wear: A Guide {Goulburn Family Photographer}

What should we wear is probably the question that I get asked most as I help families prepare for their session with me.

My top three tips are:

1. Choose 3 or so colours for your family, ones with similar tones that compliment each other but aren’t matchy matchy.
2. Avoid patterns and overly bright colours
3. Incorporating different textures, layers and accessories is the perfect way to add interest to your outfits.

And honestly the most important thing is to feel comfortable in what you are wearing. Trust me when I say it won’t matter how beautifully coordinated your outfits are if you are uncomfortable. What you wear should also really reflect your families style. It’s also worthwhile considering the location you have chosen for your shoot.

And don’t forget Pinterest for inspiration.

Here are few examples from recent shoots:

Happy, Smiley Girls {Goulburn Family Photographer}

As always I loved, loved, loved this shoot. An immaculately dressed family, a beautiful sunny day (albeit windy – but that’s Goulburn, right?) and happy, smiley girls – the perfect combination. As I worked through editing this session I really had to restrain myself from posting every second image on Facebook – so many beautiful shots. Here are just a few of my favourites:

And The Winner Is……{Goulburn Family Photographer}

Sorry for the delay in announcing this, we’ve been away for a few days. The winner of the fabulous framed 20″ x 20″ collage is Jo & Ben Evans, with this stunning image. The voting was really close.

And the winner of the family photoshoot and $100 print credit, as drawn from the hat by my nine year old, is Karina Rowlands.

A big congratulations to both winners and thank you to everyone who took the time to vote. Your ongoing support is very much appreciated.

Beautiful Goulburn Summer Nights {Goulburn Family Photographer}

I’m not going to lie, this was a tough shoot! This gorgeous young man is quite possibly one of the most determined and strong willed little people I have met (and I have had four of my own!). All wonderful qualities that will serve him well in life no doubt. He wasn’t going to be fooled by my usual warm up tricks! I’m still in love with the resulting images, they are probably just a little more candid than is my usual style. The shoot was held late in the afternoon in December and the light was so beautiful. Here are some of my favourites.

Products In Focus: Collages

When you have a family photo session, sometimes the hardest part is deciding what to do with the final images. In the past even I’ve been guilty of investing time and money in to a beautiful session of my own family, with some amazing photographers, only to purchase the digital negatives and then never actually do anything about getting those stunning pictures on to our walls.

That’s why for each session I shoot I take the time to put together 1-2 collages of my favourite images from the sessions. I then work directly with my clients to customise these collages to include their absolute favourite images and of course taking in to account where they are going to be displaying the final product.

Collages are the perfect way to showcase a number of images in one spot. They can be printed on to canvas, acrylic or even hung as a framed print. They look absolutely fabulous in large format.

Three Generations of Family {Goulburn Family Photographer}

When I was a student at university and got my first serious job I spent one of my first pays on a little film SLR camera. I remember it being (to me at the time) a big investment. The first photo I took on that little camera was a beautiful portrait of my much loved Grandfather, Fred. That photo still hangs on my wall some 16 years later and is easily one of my most treasured possessions.

I think it was knowing how treasured that photo of my pop is to me that made this shoot so special. It was amazing to be able to shoot three generations of the one family. And I know that as time whizzes by, as it does, that these photos will become treasured memories for this family also. I loved taking photo’s for this family of gorgeous ladies. Here are a few of my favourites.

An Idyllic Childhood {Goulburn Children Photographer}

Gosh I’ve been dying to blog this session since the moment it was over. These kids are seriously photogenic and a tonne of fun. We were so lucky to be able to do the photo session on a stunning farm only 10 minutes from Goulburn. It was the perfect location as there was plenty of room for the kids to run around and explore and be themselves and we got a great mix of candid shots as well as the more posed portrait shots. It was so hard to choose just a few to share.

Sunny Goulburn Afternoons {Goulburn Family Photographer}

A couple of weekends a go I got to spend a gorgeous warm sunny afternoon taking photos of this family on their grandparents property. The kids were so much fun, especially the little one – her love of life is so infectious and she almost always has a massive smile on her sweet little face. Here are some of my favourites from our session:

The Fabulous Threes {Goulburn Family Photographer}

You often hear the year of a child’s life when they are three described as the ‘terrible threes’, but lately I’ve come to realise that I’m actually quite fond of three year olds. They are funny, full of energy and inquisitive about the world around them. And this gorgeous little girl was definitely no exception. Here are a few of my favourites from our shoot:
